What’s Actually Worth Your Time, Money & Energy?

September 29, 2026 By Ashley Slaughter

Connection + Conversation at the recent Power Up Event, produced by Sweat for Smiles

We’re doing all the things.

Protein. Strength training. Skincare. Supplements. Mammograms. Retirement accounts. Sleep scores. Steps. Hydration. Meditation. Morning routines.

But are we focusing on the things that actually matter?

There’s more wellness information available to us than ever before—and that can be a good thing. But it can also make taking care of ourselves feel like another full-time job. There’s always something else we’re supposed to buy, track, change or add to our routine.

Lately, I’ve been thinking less about what else should I be doing? and more about what actually deserves my time, money and energy?

That question became the inspiration for our next Sweat for Smiles event, The Essentials Edit.

What Does “Essential” Really Mean?

The idea isn’t to create another checklist of things women should be doing. It’s almost the opposite.

I want to cut through some of the noise and have an honest conversation about the things that can make a meaningful difference in our lives—and the things we may be giving far too much attention to.

For The Essentials Edit, I’m bringing together three experts to look at that question from very different, but deeply connected, perspectives.

Women’s Health: Dr. Angela Glasnapp

We schedule appointments for our kids, keep track of everyone else’s needs and somehow manage a million things at once. But how often does our own health move to the bottom of the list?

With Dr. Angela Glasnapp, we’ll talk about the health essentials women should be prioritizing. What appointments and screenings matter? What changes should we pay attention to as we get older? What questions should we be asking our doctors?

This isn’t about worrying more about our health. It’s about knowing what deserves our attention so we can worry less about everything else.

Nutrition + Energy: Amy Shapiro, MS, RD

Few areas of wellness come with as many rules as nutrition.

Eat more protein. Don’t eat too late. Fast. Don’t fast. Take supplements. Avoid certain ingredients. Track everything.

It’s exhausting.

Amy Shapiro, MS, RD will help us bring nutrition back to the essentials. What should we really prioritize to support our energy, strength and long-term health? Which everyday habits make the biggest difference? And which wellness trends can we stop obsessing over?

Because eating well shouldn’t require perfection—or take up all of our mental energy.

Financial Wellness: Morgan Newman

We talk a lot about investing in our health. We don’t always talk as openly about investing in our financial well-being.

But money affects so many parts of our lives—from the choices we can make today to how secure we feel about the future.

Morgan Newman of The Newman Group will help us look at the financial essentials women should understand and prioritize. What should we know about our own finances? What conversations should we be having? And where is our money truly worth spending—or saving?

Financial wellness deserves a place in the wellness conversation, too.

Maybe Wellness Is About Editing, Not Adding

That’s really what I hope we explore together.

We don’t necessarily need another supplement, another routine or another item on our to-do lists.

Sometimes taking better care of ourselves means getting clearer about our priorities.

What deserves our time?

What deserves our money?

What deserves our energy?

And what can we finally give ourselves permission to let go?

We’ll explore all of this at The Essentials Edit on Friday, October 23 at Lyons Den Power Yoga NYC. We’ll start with hot power yoga, reset with healthy sips and bites, then come together for our Essentials Panel. Message Sweat for Smiles to request an invite.

And in true Sweat for Smiles fashion, we’ll turn taking care of ourselves into an opportunity to care for others: 100% of ticket proceeds will benefit Coalition for the Homeless.

The Essentials Edit is presented with support from The Newman Group.

But I don’t want to wait until the event to start the conversation.

What’s one thing you’ve decided is absolutely worth your time, money or energy—and one thing you’ve realized just isn’t?

I’d love to hear your answer. Share your reply via story and tag @sweatforsmiles.💙
