NYC Dance Choreographer, Jamie Solomon, led the guests of the recent Sweat for Smiles “Strut Strong: A Women’s Day Celebration” through an incredible heels dance class. For those who missed it, she has shared with us 5 tips for dancing In heels (for the first time).
- WORK WITH A PRO! Taking a class with a professional helps you build confidence, learn proper technique, and keep your body safe. You don’t have to figure it out alone.
- CHOOSE THE RIGHT HEEL! Start with a wider, more stable heel, like a block or Cuban heel. As you get stronger, you can work your way up to a stiletto.
- ENGAGE YOUR POWER MUSCLES. Activate your inner thighs, glutes, and core to help you stay balanced and feel strong in your movements.
- LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Everyone moves differently, so focus on what feels natural and empowering for you. Heels are all about owning your movement.
- CONFIDENCE IS KEY! Heels dance is as much about attitude as it is about technique. Trust yourself, take up space, and let yourself shine.
