Style Up With Athleisure Wear in 2019, by Stylist Ann Pennington

Heading into the New Year brings the opportunity of new goals. It’s a natural time to set new fitness objectives but also the impetus to be creative with your look. How about combining the two?

Day to Night, On-The-Go Fitness Wear 

As a stylist i’m always lugging around a million different pieces of clothing and its exhausting. When I’m not working the last thing I want to do is be carrying multiple different outfits around when heading to the gym and then drinks with the girls. If you haven’t already heard of “athleisure wear“ you need to know now. It even has its own Wikipedia definition.

Athleisure Wear – A ‘trend in fashion when clothing designed for workouts and other activities is worn in other settings, such as the workplace, at school and other casual or social occasions.’  

It feels like I may have invented this trend many moons ago because in typical New York life this is pretty much all I wear. Ty Hunter, Beyonce’s stylist, introduced me to this new way of athleisure wear in 2017. He designed and launched Ty Hunter by Reflex in partnership with SIX:02 and his line includes dresses, crop tops, leggings and more. Having pretty much bought every piece I packed them all up for a vacation to the Bahamas and it didn’t matter if I was heading to pilates or dinner I always felt fabulous.

Trends to Try

In the hectic world of a modern woman, athleisure wear is not just a trend. It can pretty much become a lifestyle. I’m sure you already own some great workout pieces so I suggest a few things to keep in mind to help you look and feel incredible in 2019.

Athleisure Takes Your Look from Day to Night

Get the Details: Look for yoga pants with fun details.

Go Shiny: Some brands make shiny leggings which are amazing when worn with a white tee shirt, your go to high heels and a leather jacket.

More Mesh: Another favorite is the leggings with mesh cutouts. They are great with a chunky sweater and some Adidas.

Accessorize: To really spice up your look add fun accessories like big hoops with a bright colored yoga top and jeans.

Wear Wedges: Round it out with a wedge to create that summer look to ward off the cold of winter.

 

Add a Pop To Your Current Wardrobe

There are millions of ways to create an easy and functional look which can merge your current wardrobe with some athleisure. Let this New Year not only transform your health and fitness, but get creative when dressing for your workout routine. Add a little color and buy the yoga pants with rhinestones on them. Wear what you feel beautiful in and remember style is about how you feel not what others like.
